Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026. This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies Compact Quarters and its partners use, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your computer or mobile device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work properly, to remember your preferences, to keep sites fast and secure, and — on advertising-supported sites like this one — to serve and measure ads. A cookie usually contains the name of the site it came from, its lifetime, and a value, which is often a randomly generated unique number.

Cookies this site uses

Essential and functional cookies (set by this site / WordPress). WordPress sets a temporary cookie on the login screen to check whether your browser accepts cookies, and login cookies for registered users and administrators so they do not have to sign in on every page. If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies so the comment form is pre-filled next time; those commenter cookies last for one year. These functional cookies are not used to track you across other websites.

Performance and security cookies. Our hosting, caching, and content-delivery services may set cookies or similar identifiers so pages load quickly and the site stays protected from abuse. These are used only to operate and secure the site.

Advertising cookies (set by third parties). Compact Quarters is funded by advertising served by third-party ad networks, such as Google AdSense. These partners set cookies — for example, Google’s advertising cookies — to serve ads on this site, limit how often you see the same ad, measure impressions and clicks, and show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Third-party vendors, including Google, use these cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits. We do not control third-party cookies; they are governed by the advertising partners’ own privacy and cookie policies.

How to control cookies

  • Browser settings: You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser’s settings. Every browser is different, so check its help section for instructions. Note that blocking essential cookies may stop parts of this site (such as commenting) from working properly.
  • Personalized advertising opt-out: You can opt out of personalized ads from Google by visiting Google’s Ads Settings page. You can also opt out of many third-party vendors’ personalized advertising cookies at aboutads.info/choices (or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe).
  • Do Not Track: This site does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because there is no agreed standard for how to interpret them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example when we start or stop working with an advertising partner. The current version will always be posted on this page with its “Last updated” date.
